Hatchet 3 is the 2013 horror film of the Hatchet series. It chronicles the ongoing adventures of Victor Crowley and his murderous rampage through Honey Island Swamp in Louisiana. Kane Hodder portrays Victor Crowley while Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanbilt plays Misty.



Its practical special effects are the film's greatest strength. Unlike many modern horror movies that rely heavily on CG effects, Hatchet 3 features mostly practical makeup effect and sets--resulting in some truly horrific moments throughout the film.

The cast gives a solid performance, with Kane Hodder being the most terrifying villain. The dialogue feels like a 1980s slasher movie. It's funny and hilarious. There are some funny moments that stand out in all the gut-wrenching scenes.

The problem is that the budget is so small (reportedly $1 million) the majority of locations used (blog post) in the film are re-used locations from previous films in series. For instance the same boathouse was featured twice within the movie. A lot of the locations feel like they were reused from previous films from this series. The Hatchet and Hatchet 2 films may feel like the film is familiar.

Overall, I enjoyed Hatchet 3 even though it felt very similar to prior installments in the series. It also offered plenty of gory thrills and some entertaining performances by the actors.
